As we indicated in the last ECONOMETER NEWSLETTER of 2008, electricity bills would be sent monthly from 2009 instead of bi-monthly.
We also predicted a considerable increase in the “excess usage” unit price -then (0.13 cents per KwH) along with an increase in the “excess usage” limit, previously (1100 KwH per household for 2 months). Our predictions were correct and now, coupled with the increase in charges, owners of Spanish property have already begun to receive much larger monthly bills.
The new “excess usage” limit - now calculated monthly has been set at 500 KwH per household per month, previously this would have been 550 KwH. The “excess unit” price has increased from 0.13 cents to a massive 0.02839 cents per unit - More than double!

During the hot summer months, Air-Conditioning units will be responsible for a large part of electricity consumption, especially if that property is rented out as either a holiday or long-term let. With a long hot summer predicted, people need to look at ways of reducing their consumption or, they will see little or no profit from their rental incomes.
